Giving at Dalton: A Simple Gift Became a School

Dalton wouldn’t exist were it not for the foresight and generosity of Mrs. W. Murray Crane. By virtue of her husband’s family business, the paper company Crane & Co., established in 1801 in Dalton, Massachusetts, Mrs. Crane provided the financial support Helen Parkhurst required to found the Dalton School in 1919. Since then, Dalton parents, grandparents, alumni, faculty, and friends have made generous gifts to support the School’s expansion and growth. Our community’s commitment has positioned Dalton as one of the finest and most respected schools in the country and a leader in progressive education.

You, too, can have a lasting impact on the future of Dalton by creating an endowment or by naming the School as a beneficiary of your will, retirement plan, living trust, life insurance policy, or any other arrangement that benefits Dalton in the future. Gifts can be unrestricted, or designated for a specific purpose such as the 89th Street Expansion, Financial Aid, Health & Wellness, Math, or World Languages. These planned gifts are a powerful and meaningful way to support the School and to ensure that Dalton can pursue its mission for generations to come.

We welcome all members of the Dalton community who have included Dalton in their estate plans or created an endowment into our honorary Parkhurst Society. Membership in the Society unites you with an important group of individuals who have exhibited a strong commitment to Dalton. Our valued Parkhurst Society members receive special recognition at School events and are invited to an annual reception with the Head of School. Each member also receives a gold pin with the Dalton logo to wear at all events for quick identification as a Society member.
